Background

From an early age, I loved designing and building new things. I was especially drawn to cars and motorcycles and even as a child, knew that I'd study mechanical engineering. In the years after receiving my BSME, I was given multiple opportunities to leverage my education and passions and experienced some notable technical accomplishments, including multiple granted patents.

However, I realized that maximizing my impact required deeper business acumen to supplement my technical skills and experiences. So, I completed an MBA at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Business while working, allowing for real-time application of what I was learning. This provided the additional context I needed to begin transforming my personal thought process and how I led others.

I've been fortunate to have personally designed and led the development and commercialization of many desirable products, enjoyed by countless enthusiasts. However, my most rewarding experiences are working with great teams of people whose unique talents and perspectives contribute to a whole that's much greater than the sum of the parts. Some of my leadership highlights are shown below, with key levers for which I was also personally responsible. It's only through those teams and team members that I've been able to do great things, and I look forward to doing the same with you.

Key Experiences

Key Levers
  • Modular vehicle and system platform

  • In-house battery, power-electronics, motor, IoT, and software/controls for full control, IP ownership, and rapid ongoing optimization

  • Advanced multi-body dynamics and structural simulation to eliminate prototype builds

H-D® Electrification & Carveout

“The most radical departure in the 111-year history of the brand”

– Fox Sports

“The world’s best sport-bike-riding experience”

– Wall Street Journal

Created the vision for Harley-Davidson’s electric vehicles and led a small team to deliver that vision with fully functional prototypes designed and built in less than one year, supporting global unbranded consumer research and more than 1000 non-employee rides. Refined versions of the prototypes shared publicly as part of the LiveWire Experience Tour, then brought to series production in 2019 as the Harley-Davidson LiveWire, the world's first full-size electric vehicle from a mainstream motorcycle manufacturer.

Built deep internal EV technical capabilities while responsible for the establishment, staffing, and leadership of LiveWire Labs, and leading H-D's broader innovation/R&D, architecture teams, proving grounds, test labs, reliability engineering, and centralized engineering (CAE, materials, vehicle dynamics, Class-A surfacing).

Drove all product-related work that formed the foundation for the $1.3B+ LiveWire electric vehicle spinoff and LiveWire going public on the NYSE, the first publicly traded electric motorcycle company in the US.

Key Levers
  • Silicon Valley based development team with expertise in batteries, power electronics, motors, software, and controls

  • Advanced multi-body dynamics and structural simulation to accelerate and reduce cost of development

H-D® Middleweight

"Whatever the metric - power, performance, handling, durability, technology, weight, price - the Pan America 1250 Special can compete head-to-head with well-established players in the ADV segment"

- Rider Magazine

"They created an ADV machine, a sport-touring motorcycle and a technological powerhouse that could undoubtedly send them to the top of the segment"

- Adventure Motorcycle Magazine

Conceived, established technical targets for, and led development of Harley-Davidson's all-new middleweight motorcycle architecture/platform with breadth to cover cruiser, streetfighter/standard, and adventure segments while addressing tightening emissions standards.

First model released in mature adventure segment and was immediately competitive with the 5th-generation class leader.

Key Levers
  • Optimized lightweight modular architecture - via ground-up new stressed engine & minimalist frame

  • Adaptive suspension, lowers as vehicle comes to stop

  • Advanced variable valve train

H-D® Cruiser

"It’s hard to argue with cleaner, lighter, simpler, faster, more comfortable, and better handling, with no loss in character"

- Cycle World

"These bikes have the same care and attention to detail H-D has been known for, but it’s been lavishly applied to the most rideable bikes I think the MoCo has turned out to date"

- Revzilla

Led major redesign of Harley-Davidson's Softail platform and all models, for significant improvements in performance and quality, while respecting the soul of these classic Harley motorcycles, and improving unit economics.

Key Levers
  • Technical expert organization, providing system & discipline expertise across the business

Buell®

“Probably the most advanced chassis in sport motorcycling”

– Cycle World Magazine (on the XB9R)

Led creation of Buell's first truly scaled platform, the XB, and the concept-through-production development of the first model on the platform, the Firebolt XB9R. Personally designed the vehicle and system architecture and provided hands-on leadership to engineering team, integrating breakthrough concepts and technologies, several of which have since become industry standards. The XB9R achieved the second-best quality across the H-D and Buell portfolio within one year.

"This is a remarkable bike to ride, with its raw power and excellent handling and braking, whether it’s on tight twisty corners or long fast curves"

- Road Rider Magazine (on the 1125R)

Drove creation of the next-generation 1125 platform, establishing vehicle, powertrain, and system architecture in partnership with Austrian engine provider.

These two platforms and their multiple models generated the majority of Buell's 130,000+ unit sales.

Key Levers
  • Modular platform for rapid, low-cost derivative models

  • Global technology partnering & supply base development

  • Extreme light-weighting through part consolidation and topology optimization

  • Advanced materials and manufacturing processes, e.g., magnesium thixomolding, cast 17-4 stainless

  • Advanced web-based project tracking - features & spec's, risks & issues, BOM

Early Career

Began my engineering career with Parker Hannifin®, supporting customers in automotive, aerospace, and industrial businesses. Here, I learned how to be a professional and to operate in a business environment.

I then transitioned to Team Losi Racing® to lead the engineering of national and world championship winning RC race cars, while transforming the company's product development processes. Team Losi providing a wealth of learning about creativity and what's truly possible with an open mind, passion, and commitment.

Throughout my early career, I pursued my passions outside work, which contributed significantly to my learning and personal development.

Other

Applied first principles approach to high performance home design, starting with inspirations and a topographical survey. Completed detailed 3D home design, including materials and finishes. Provided design to the architect and structural engineer who both suggested refinements and generated construction documentation. The home achieved its intended feel, performance, and aesthetic. A calming sanctuary.
